Visit the Katy Depot
The town’s 1890 M-K-T Depot is a reminder of the town’s roots. The structure remains the line’s oldest surviving wooden station and its owners are glad to show you around. On the grounds is M-K-T Caboose # 205 which was a gift from Union Pacific and was moved and placed on the track by volunteers. The Katy Depot has been restored as a tourist center with community collections that emphasize Checotah’s heritage. There is a Porter’s Pantry with souvenir items from local sources and there’s also a Freight Room big enough for family gatherings. The Katy is open three seasons a year, four days a week and by appointment. Hours are 11 am to 4 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 to 4 pm Sunday afternoons. Admission is free. Call us at 918-473-6377 or 918-473-2070 for more information |
